Issue #8: You're in store for vore lore.

She's a maneater. Literally.

In some corners of the internet, the August 8th is known as Vore Day. Because 8/8. Get it? Ate/Ate? No? Well, if you don’t get the pun/joke that most likely means you don’t know what vore is in the first place so let me get those of you not in the know up to speed with the rest of the audience.

Basically, Vorarephilia or just ‘vore’ for short, is a fetish for eating people or being eaten, usually alive and in once piece. It’s something that comes up a LOT in monster erotica. Heck, many of the games I’ve already featured in the mag have a scene or two of the protagonist being devoured by a monster girl. It’s almost as if many of these monsters are known for eating people in their original source mythology or something… Huh.

Vore is understandably a repulsive fetish to many people, mainly because that kills people, duh. And IRL, being eaten alive would be a painful, disgusting, and all around horrifying way to die. But the appeal is actually easier to explain than something truly bizarre like say… a foot fetish. Sorry, not sorry, foot fans.

For one, a lot of vore porn actually is non-fatal, doubling down on the total lack of realism and simply doing away with some or all of the otherwise gross considerations realism would bring, in the same way anal porn tends to pretend poop doesn’t exist, making the inside of a stomach (or whatever other orifice someone is stuffed into) safe, clean, breathable, well lit, and downright cozy. Granted, a lot of it doesn’t but I’ll touch on that in a bit. Anway, lot of vore content overlaps with other adjacent fetishes. For example, people with oral fixations will enjoy the heavy tongue and mouth play involved, and there’s a lot for bdsm fans to enjoy: a literal predator/prey dynamic can translate well to a dom/sub one and being enveloped by your partner in tight, wet spaces is very bondagey. It’s a lot of close, intimate contact and “I want you inside me” is generally accepted as mainstream dirty talk, it’s just some people are taking it literally now.

But then there's the snuff fetish aspect. “Fatal” vore porn that focuses on the digestion aspect instead of handwaving it away is equally as common and a little harder to explain the appeal of. At the same time though, maybe it’s less weird than it sounds because the two most popular monsters to fuck in mainstream popular culture by far are vampires and succubi, and their entire deal is that they eat people! Sure, they both usually do it by “draining” someone instead of swallowing their bodies whole, but it basically presents the same problem of fetishizing murderous man-devouring predators. One explanation is the angle that power is sexy, and being able to effortlessly murder someone and get away with it is an incredible showcase of power. A lot of fatal vore still handwaves away the unpleasant aspects of digesting, writing it to feel incredibly pleasurable instead of painful, which makes it very similar the way death is eroticized in succubus porn: people throwing their lives away for supreme pleasure in a moment of heightened hedonism. Finally, there’s a smaller remaining chunk of vore porn that handwaves away nothing, making being eaten alive realistically horrific and gory, and the most straightforward possible explanation I can offer for the appeal of that content is just straight-up extreme sadism or masochism. Plus, sometimes the point is to mix some horror into the eroticism to put some emotional highs and lows into the story telling.

I could go deeper into the subject, pun not intended, but I’m not trying to write the book on vore here. What I will do though, is introduce some well-made vore-focused monstergirl games! And a few other things, but let’s start with the games!

Echidna Wars DX

Echidna Wars DX, (also known as Millia Wars DX or Mirea Wars DX) is a nicely done side scrolling action game in the spirit of arcade run-and-guns like Metal Slug. There are four playable characters each with different abilities, which helps make the game highly re-playable. (which is good since there’s only a few levels) The sexual content is almost entirely vore, and every enemy in the game will attempt to eat you. If you’re NOT into vore it’s still pretty fun as a straight up action game.

Monster Suprised You-ki Chan!

Different game but pretty much the same deal as the previous one, retro arcade action platformer. But, instead of multiple characters, Youki-chan has multiple weapons that all work differently. It’s a cute, but violent game, as there are some pretty gnarly special instant-kill finishing moves you can pull off on the bosses that would make for good fatalities in Mortal Kombat. It’s also got more variety to the lewd content with some actual sex scenes this time, but you gotta make sure to get the right version.

See, there are two different “editions” of this game, an “R-15” version that’s technically SFW. (Still has some vore scenes but little to no nudity and sex) and an R-18 version that has hardcore sexual content. BOTH versions of the game each have an exclusive level that the other one doesn’t and a few altered enemies, so if you want to play for the gameplay it’s worth playing both versions. If you get it on Steam you can get both as a bundle.

Domination Quest: Kuro and the Naughty Monster Girls

Domination Quest is a JRPG with a somewhat misleading name. Kuro, the male protagonist, is a “dominator,” a rare type of monsterboy that is able to capture and control other monsters; which effectively works pretty similarly to Pokemon or Shin Megami Tensei. Almost every enemy in the game is a recruitable party member. However, that is the ONLY sense in which Kuro is a “dominator”. The sex scenes are exclusively femdom, often to a hardcore, masochistic degree, to the point where roughly half of them are ‘death by snu-snu’ and/or vore game-overs inflicted by the companions Kuro is “dominating”.

If you enjoy that, and/or you want something more action oriented like the first couple games listed you can also check out Kokage-no-Izumi’s other earlier games: Lillian’s Adventure is a Metroidvania spinoff set in the Dominator Quest setting sharing many of the same monsters, and then there’s the Demon Angel Sakura series, which starts a little rough (It’s their first game release) but picks up some more content and features as the volumes go on. Featured Covergirl

This month’s covergirl is Fink from Fink’s guide to Predators Prey. Err… this one will take some explaining.

First off, the picture was drawn by SeekGr, the main artist of Snakethroat books, a group that creates vore-focused illustrated erotic novellas. One of their ongoing series is Fink’s guide to Predators, in which the titular Fink is a horny lizard(?) monsterboy bounty hunter who roams a post-apocalyptic fantasy world with his partner Bella, a large beastwoman gunslinger predator with a serious disposition. Fink’s main hobby, fetish, and academic pursuit, much to Bella’s chagrin, is getting himself eaten by various predators, escaping, and documenting his encounters in his ‘guide to predators’ a field guide/bestiary of sorts that might remind one of the monster girl encyclopedia.

Fink’s Guide to Prey on the other hand, is an AU volume of Fink’s guide to predators, in which Fink and Bella switch roles, and genders. It’s pretty much a ‘just for fun’ book to take a break from the main plot of the series while still dropping some teasers and lore hints that might apply to the ‘cannon’ story. Anyway (girl) Fink seemed like a pretty solid representative for a vore day edition of a monster girl erotica e-zine, so I asked Seekgr if I could borrow her for the cover and here we are.

So, while I’m talking about Snakethroat Books I might as well introduce a couple more of their stories that might appeal to monstergirl fans. which is most of them.

“Stuck In Another World Where All The Girls Want To Fuck And Eat Me, It's A Good Thing I Learned This Resurection Spell” is a riff on Japanese isekai stories with obnoxiously long titles, but rather unironically self-explanatory thanks to it’s own obnoxiously long title. So I’ll move right along.

Stop Digesting My Darling is about a naive college boy whom accidentally gets assigned to a dorm full of man-eating monstergirls. It seems to riff off of Monster Musume a bit at first glance, both being monstergirl harem romances with an obsessive snake-woman as the lead girl, but past that the rest of the cast is wildly different and the scenario takes a different turn.

And that’s just a few of their (currently) longest running series. If you want to see some of the other work they have to offer, be sure to check out the Snakethroat books gumroad store. I’ll wrap up this segment by summarizing that the entire catalogue of snakethroat books is heavily vore-focused, contains a lot of monstergirls, and the writing is notable for having well done dialogue with a lot of emotional highs and lows. Slapstick comedy and gutwrenching tragedy seem to feature in equal measure, sometimes in the same book.

Encounter

I was on the fence about including this one since it leans much further into the furry fandom than the monstergirl one, but the other focus of this newsletter is games and the whole video is basically a parody of “video game boss fight against a giant enemy.” I figure some readers of this mag would appreciate the humor and atmosphere of this one. It’s surprisingly well produced and voice acted too. It’s got a sequel too.

The Devil’s Cookie

Now for something much more solidly Monstergirl related! The Devil’s Cookie is about a mage and her clumsy demonic familiar going through some role-reversal after an experiment gone wrong or right, depending on how you look at it results in the master getting shrunk down to a tiny size, and Mio the demon can’t resist the urge to toy with her. The video has three different endings with some unique content/fetishes, (well two at the time of writing this article, the third one is being worked on and due for release next month) Ending 1 is oral vore, ending 2 is vaginal ending three is going to involve penises.

NotBoogie

NotBoogie draws a lot of fanart, a lot of shortstacks, and some endearingly high effort shitposts.

One of his more oddball projects is a mod for Super Mario RPG that adds a new bossfight with significantly more monstergirl titty than the usual SMRPG boss fight.

Most of his art is WAY too spicy for Substack rules but he’s got a dedicated galley site you can browse through if you’d like to see more.

ModeSeven

ModeSeven has been drawing for quite a while, under multiple pen names. (If I remember correctly he was originally, or at least previously known as NitroTitan?) Anyway, there’s a lot of monstergirls, several settings, and a lot of odd fetishes (Vore, transformation, crazy shapeshifter shenanigans, etc. He’s also got his own gallery site, which takes the form of a personal image booru.

ModeSeven is currently working on Concession, a long-form webcomic (600 pages and counting!) that serves as the origin story of one of his OCs. It’s hard to go into detail about what actually happens in this comic without spoiling anything, but it’s got a bit of a Fullmetal Alchemist meets HR Gieger thing going. It’s got a lot of sex scenes, including some male on male ones so fair warning there, but the whole realm and even the actual fight scenes have a huge undercurrent of weird erotic body horror.

And that’s all for August’s vore themed issue. Again, it’s a pretty divisive niche fetish so I was iffy on centering a whole issue around it, but it’s a frequent topic in monstergirl media. I hope I was able to ease newcomers into it and explain some of the appeal to the non-voreaphiles, while still introducing some material the dedicated vore fans would enjoy too.
